I have crafted, and it was good. Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] katzenfrau's patchwork scarves, I decided to work with the girls to make some gifts for their friends. The fabric store had some very cuddly and adorable fleeces and flannels, so we mixed and matched, sewed some strips, and manifested blocks. (Always fun to demonstrate that rotary-cutting, assembly-line trick to somebody who's never seen it before.)

Fiona Pie got to learn how to do a straight stitch on the machine and helped with construction of the first two scarves; I took care of the remaining four after most of the other kids were in bed. It went very quickly and came out nicely enough that I sort of feel tempted to go get some more remnants and make MORE. Except the kids say they have plenty for their buddies now. So sad.

The picture is a little bit wonky, because I suck at pictures and it was my cell phone. But hey...schmooblies!

I've really gotta get better at taking pictures of such things, because it'd be nice to share now and then. Both teenage girls in the house are taking digital photography this coming semester (please, God, not in the same class), so maybe I can prevail upon them to help me out.

Next up, hopefully complete in time for Xmas, balaclavas for (almost) everyone! This family does a lot of camping, and much of it in colder weather. Some larger fleece remnants in kid-specific colors are being used for that. It's a pretty simple piece to put together...using a store-bought one as my "pattern."

UPDATE: I found a balaclava pattern online that doesn't use/require the elasticized drawstring, which is good, because I can't seem to acquire that locally. Will create the seam allowance for it and order it to be placed when we receive it.
