The very moment a person of competence is promoted to a position that requires management of other employees, aliens whisk them away to perform a series of procedures that remove their hearts, re-route all logic circuits in their brains, and make their butts bigger.

Beware! The only way to escape that terrible fate is to avoid drawing attention to yourself as exceptional in any way. For the sake of all that's decent, do everything you can to be a pain in the neck...that way, the aliens won't want to take you.

I always found that being competent, yet opinionated, help the Corporate masters from wanting yu closer to the big secret room, where all knowledge is exsposed. The only drawback was they made you act like the next level while not paying you for it. You were the fixer, and your boss was the front man. I just learned toaccept,it. There was joy in compromise.

I did not think you were. I thought you might be speaking of another. Truth be told, I always found my self in management one way or the other.

Me too, honey. Just taking a moment to gripe about corporate life, but in a direction different than much of LJ-land these days. I'm frustrated with the people who report to me, is all. I'll get over it.
