This is the time of the season when I feel cranky about the house. Don't get me wrong...this is a good house. But, this time of year, it's been too long since we've had the windows open, so I keep thinking it smells all stuffy and doggish. The recent thaw means dogs track mud and dirt clumps in *every time* they go outside, which is hell on the carpets. And the time I spend exercising these days used to be spent cleaning house, so the level of cleanliness is now almost entirely dependent on the kids having done a thorough job of their daily/weekly chores ("imperfect" is kind). So it all kind of combines to drive me a little bit nuts, even if I have no intention of switching that time back over to housekeeping or purchasing a Rug Doctor this very moment. But now I feel better, just for having said it.

Same thing here, and add to it an old dog who's getting the point where sometimes he just stands up and poop falls out of him. Fortunately, my don't-give-a-shit is much higher than yours. :-)

Seriously, though. Why should I when Hastings does it for me?

Oh, dear. How undignified. Thanks for sharing -- not so bothered by clumps of mud now. :)

There is no excuse for February. None at all. I keep thinking our house smells like stale wastebaskets.

As I recall, a loan of the carpet shampooer proved to be a great excuse for us to get together for coffee. So...wanna borrow a carpet shampooer? ;)

I think it was around this time of year, too! Ha. I'd love to get together for coffee sometime soon, carpet cleaner or not. :) I'll have my people talk with your people.

Similar situation here. February is the month of near-constant rain, which is why I'm so glad that we replaced the carpets with laminated wood flooring. It may be smudged, but in a matter of 15 minutes I can get out the swiffer mop and do a decent job of wiping it clean. Even with three dogs and a couple of cats.

I'm very grateful for that laminate flooring. Honestly, going forward I can't imagine having carpet again. *shudder*

Yeah. It's just...GAH. We live on a corner lot, so there's sidewalk traffic (including dogs, as well as the side- and backyard neighbor dogs to contend with. So, when they go out, they're racing back and forth along the fencelines, tearing up what's left of the grass and churning up a lot of mud -- getting it between their toes and splashed all over their bellies. Can't bathe them every day and can't catch 'em all the time coming in, either. I despair. If there were any sort of hardwood underneath the carpeting in the living room, I'd be all over tearing it up...but ALAS. It's a new enough house that there isn't really anything under there but subfloor. The kitchen is hardwood, at least. ::sigh::
