putting away and starting fresh
Dec. 28th, 2012 09:34 amI swear, I think I get more excited about *putting away* holiday decorations than I do about getting them out. Sometimes. Plus, I get a little jolt of organizing energy right around the New Year. Looking foward to that long weekend in January, when nearly everyone else will be outta the house on a camping trip, so I can take things down and pack them away nicely for next year.
I'm lusting over some of those specialized packing boxes that are marketed to suckers like me -- the lighting reels, stacking ornament storage solutions, etc. Probably won't get anything this year, but might look at some clever DIY methods of storing garlands and the like. BONUS: This year, we went through almost all of our ribbons and bows, so I think I have an excuse to purchase more!
On this weekend's plan is the long-awaited repainting of KiraDeara's room. She asked us to get rid of the pink & purple scheme that's been there since before she moved in. She's gone with a really soft sage green color and has asked PB to hand-paint some gold flourishes. Should look super-pretty. We pulled things off the walls and moved furniture into the center of the room yesterday, knocked down cobwebs, wiped everything down, and got most of the patching/spackling/sanding done. This evening, we'll finish a few spots that needed a second coat of spackle and then tape things off. Saturday, we'll BUY PAINT and get to it. It's not a huge room, so I hope it won't be a terribly painful project. Not sure if I want to repaint the ceiling at this point. Might be a good idea but I hate hate hate having to reach over my head for things. We'll see.
After that, we'll get to "re-design" the room a bit by picking different curtains from storage and all that good stuff. She's thrilled, and I'm happy to be fulfilling that promise as my birthday gift to her this year.
