I swear, I think I get more excited about *putting away* holiday decorations than I do about getting them out. Sometimes. Plus, I get a little jolt of organizing energy right around the New Year. Looking foward to that long weekend in January, when nearly everyone else will be outta the house on a camping trip, so I can take things down and pack them away nicely for next year.

I'm lusting over some of those specialized packing boxes that are marketed to suckers like me -- the lighting reels, stacking ornament storage solutions, etc. Probably won't get anything this year, but might look at some clever DIY methods of storing garlands and the like. BONUS: This year, we went through almost all of our ribbons and bows, so I think I have an excuse to purchase more!

On this weekend's plan is the long-awaited repainting of KiraDeara's room. She asked us to get rid of the pink & purple scheme that's been there since before she moved in. She's gone with a really soft sage green color and has asked PB to hand-paint some gold flourishes. Should look super-pretty. We pulled things off the walls and moved furniture into the center of the room yesterday, knocked down cobwebs, wiped everything down, and got most of the patching/spackling/sanding done. This evening, we'll finish a few spots that needed a second coat of spackle and then tape things off. Saturday, we'll BUY PAINT and get to it. It's not a huge room, so I hope it won't be a terribly painful project. Not sure if I want to repaint the ceiling at this point. Might be a good idea but I hate hate hate having to reach over my head for things. We'll see.

After that, we'll get to "re-design" the room a bit by picking different curtains from storage and all that good stuff. She's thrilled, and I'm happy to be fulfilling that promise as my birthday gift to her this year.

The actual painting always seems less painful than the prepping and taping, to me. Good luck! Kilz oil-based primer is da bomb!

Right now sturdy, pretty cardboard gift boxes are cheap. That's what my ornaments go in, then those boxes goes in plastic storage bins.

I don't mind the prep work when the project time allows me to do it over a day or so before painting. When it's got to be done all crammed into the same day, it's no fun at all...certainly not for a little girl who wants to help paint her room. I'm glad the schedule and equipment on hand is letting me do this stuff before she's around and chomping at the bit to JUST PAINT ALREADY.

I dream of that day. Holy crap we have so much wrapping paper and wrapping paraphernalia.

It's been *years* for us, particularly for the gift bags that have been saved and re-used. Most of those are pretty ragged too, now. Keeping an eye out for early re-stocking opportunities with post-holiday sales, but mostly looking forward to deciding what I will NOT save for next year's effort right now. :)

That should turn out to be very elegant, I'm thinking. Good choice, Kira!

I'm impressed. She's wanted to repaint for a while, but it's taken some time to arrive at her own inpiration. Glad we waited. :) I'll try to post some inadequate photography!
