In my faboo stretching session on Monday evening, I found a stretch that activated the same kind of pain I noticed when walking/running just a few hours before. It's that standing stretch where you cross one foot over the other and then bend over to touch your toes. Mostly, it's triggered in the "base" leg. I suspect there's something happening with running too much on the outside of my foot. That's a long-time problem and the biggest reason I'm picky as hell about my running shoes. Probably about time to get a new pair. Eventually.

Where at the in base leg? If on the outside of the leg, anywhere from the knee to the hip, I'd say you have IT band issues and you need to roll those out, yo.

It starts all the way down at the outside of my ankle and goes all the way up to the hip. Most of the pain is on the outside, but some of it is on the inside. The outside of my leg from knee to hip has been a treasure trove of trigger points for as long as I can remember.

I'm pricing out foam rollers this very effing second...that made a *huge* difference when I used them last, you know, in that hurts-so-good kind of way. Looking forward to getting to TKD early enough this evening to get in some good stretching again.

The pain of rolling out IT bands is a special sort of exquisite pain. If it's coming up from your ankles as well, yikes. Poor thing. I hope the foam roller helps.

Yeah...I had a trainer show me how to use them a few years ago, when I was still going to Prairie Life Fitness. And YES. Exquisite pain, but at the same time a reduction in pain. So I think it'll be good to get so o'dat at home. Fun note: [livejournal.com profile] diermuid doesn't know what they are, so I'll be able to *show* him.

I have sooper-high arches, so I tend to walk on the outside of my feet, too. It's also where my shoes wear down the quickest, natch. I've found that Nikes are the only athletic shoes I can wear because they're built up on the outside. (Whereas Avias are heavily supported on the arch and make the problem worse.)

High arches here, too. I tend to go with New Balance for stability, but it's possible Nikes have some shoes with a wider toe box these days. Good to know!

The back wall of the Nike outlet at Legends has deals that might even be worth a trip that direction.

Coincidentally, that would also mean a trip in YOUR direction! Not such a bad idea. :)

Why, I hadn't even thought of that!
