Question for the VURD: Sewing Division

Can anyone recommend a resource for figuring the ideal length of skirts and dresses for short people? Continuing lack of employment has me wanting to be productive in some way, and I have some great patterns that deserve to be used -- like, regular clothes, instead of costuming. Thank you!

Try on some skirts and pin them at various heights. Determine which length you like best on you, take off the skirt, and measure it!

There's not really a general ideal length for a range of people. Only you know if you can carry off knee-length skirts, or if they should be a little longer or shorter for you, etc. What looks great on your legs might look terrible on someone else, despite you both being the same height.

I was afraid that'd be the answer. I'm a terrible judge of what flatters me. Maybe the teenager would be willing to consult? She sure has opinions about what I should and should not wear!

Yay! I'm happy to hear they're going to be used. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, though. =/ You really just gotta figure out what looks good for your own body. Or ask a trustworthy source. =D

I can tell you, though, skirts that stop right in the middle of the knee don't look good on very many people.

I suppose, in some ways, workaday clothes could be considered "costumes." :)
