So, huh. I have the opportunity to enroll in AFLAC (again) this year at my place of employment. It's something I never really gave much thought to before, but the shift in my living situation and financial profile over the last couple of years has triggered second thoughts. Additionally, I just purchased life insurance that's mine-all-mine (not through my employer); and mom falls almost every week. Frailty and mortality are very much top-of-mind these days.

Does anybody here have AFLAC? What do you think of it?
Did you have the option but waived it? Why?

DoomBunny wants to know. :)

The pope had AFLAC when he was hit by a drunk driver in 2001. We got quite a sum in compensation for lost work time.

Of course, that was 8 years ago.

I've got AFLAC for cancer/terminal illness and for accidents. The cancer one that I have pays out some for screenings, which I've used. I haven't had anything else to claim (which is good!), but they pay the little claims fast. I took the accident plan based on knowing how good I am at dealing with snow and ice, and the cancer plan based on the fact that my mom has lupus, and at the time I signed up, that plan also covered hospitalization related to lupus and about half a dozen other conditions. I figure if I come up with lupus, nobody will ever insure me again, so I might as well get paid out something. Of course, I'm out of the age range in which the disease usually surfaces now, so I may drop that particular coverage and just keep the accident, I don't know.

I had the option and waived it. Since I have a working spouse, disability on my part doesn't mean a complete loss of income... and since it's so darn expensive, no thanks.

Plus they tried to lure us into signing up by offering plush ducks and pressuring us--we "had" to fill out the forms RIGHT THEN while they were in the office. That seemed too pathetic.
