That's what she said, when she called [livejournal.com profile] princessboredom after the state gymnastics meet. "I rocked the house, Rowie. I blew their underpants off." (Which is exactly what Rowie had told her to do, in their little pre-meet Sisterly Pep Talk, bless 'er.)

We'll have to download some pics (from the camera and off the meet CD [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn ordered) so you can see for yourself, but for now you just have to take our word for it.

4th place on floor exercise
2nd place on vault
1st place on beam
1st place on uneven bars
1st place all-around

I was worried about her anxiety level -- pretty sure she stopped *blinking* after about 10 a.m. -- but it wasn't necessary. Here's PK, surrounded by something like a hundred very keyed-up girls (some of whom were so nervous they were crying *before* they competed) and their families, and she showed me what being an extrovert is all about. Day-um. That girl just...transmuted energy right before our eyes. Relaxed and focused at the same time. Grounded and lit up. I don't know how else to describe it...she really seemed to be in her element.

Cute as the dickens, too.

One particularly trying moment for the Parental Units came at the end of her warm-up on bars (her last event), when her hand "got a rip." That's gymnastics for "tore a coin-sized hunk of skin from the gripping part of her palm." A blister forms and is torn off in the same instant, essentially. And then you get to put chalk on it and hang onto a bar. Well, she sort of frowned at her hand and showed her coach; they went over to the event judge, who sent them to the meet director, who let her go to her bag to get some tape. They put a "tape grip" on her hand and she got back in the rotation to lay down her routine. No warm-up *with* the grip on. Good thing nobody told her that's supposed to be a very difficult switch to make.

I'm exhausted. And just blown away by my little girl, who is in love with her sport.

It was great to arrive at "joy and pride" after some very intense moments of "panic and nausea." :)

I remember the first Tae Kwon Do competitions and testings with the kids...truly a rollercoaster ride!

She is, undoubtedly, amazing. I had the pleasure of high-5ing the state champ this evening, and later serving her sherbet.

Watching her during the afternoon was kind of like that bit in the Eddie Izzard routine:

rock star...rock star...rock star...SIX YEARS OLD!

The adoration has not, of course gone to her head. Unless you count the fact that she thinks she should get DIAMOND earrings when she goes for her birthday piercing today. Heh.

I would rather not, since that's a pretty big distribution list and an announcement would contain too much identifying information. Thank you for the rockin' praise, though. :)
