I got a phone call from Mom this morning. The follow-up surgery (a couple of weeks ago) showed no cancerous cells around the margins of the tumor they took out earlier in the year, so yay! She's feeling pretty good now -- mostly recovered from chemo, fuzzy new hair growth and all -- and is just about healed enough from the second surgery to start her radiation treatments.

If I understand correctly, there are some preliminary appointments next week and then the treatments (a five-week course) start a week after that. There is some debate about whether she'll treat herself to a tattoo to commemorate the process and pretty up the mark radiation will leave.

As for myself, I'm interpreting no news as good news from my own mammogram last week, though I'll wait for the actual letter to exhale. ::knocks on wood::

ETA: Letter from Breast Center arrived today. Nothing undesirably exciting about my breasts. Carry on. :)

I'm glad to hear your mother's treatment is going well. You're quite right that no news is probably good news on your mammogram, but the waiting for results is a torture all its own. The people who provide test results do seem oblivious to this.
