Ohmygosh...I've just had some tremendously good Crab Rangoon and Hot & Sour Soup from Chinese Palace (at 119th & Hwy 69, in the center where Hy-Vee used to be).** Just the day for it, too.

** Weird to have lived in a place long enough (KC area) to direct a person to someplace based on landmarks that are no longer there.

Woah. The Hy-vee is gone? We were just there at Equinox.

Also, Chinese Palace is my Most Favorite Chinese Joint in Kansas City. I used to go there like once a week for the Chinese Palace Shrimp when I worked in OP. Giant battered shrimp with water chestnuts, mushrooms and chilies in a honey-vinegar sauce. Is that not the most Kimberly food ever on the face of the earth?

The one in where Meyer Music is, and the Starbucks at the endcap.

Hrm. You say that as if it has been gone a long time. Maybe I have the crazybeans.

It's been gone quite a while...long enough that I can't pinpoint when. But it's been quite a while since you worked in teh OP, too.

Yeah, but we were just there. We bought cheese and strawberries for the Ostara potluck. Or I'm crazy. Or both.

Or that! Why didn't I think of that?

Because MJD is in Greece, and he's usually the one that remembers that sort of thing.

He was in Greece with a black hole magician and a devotee of Hermes, no less. That did not bode well for finding our way on the trek up Olympus...

And speaking of black holes, hang on -- is it the giant Hy-Vee next to the eye doctors' that you're referring to? Dammit, I hate when they move stuff while I'm not looking.

Further north in the OP

If you're further north in the OP and want some good Chinese food, the Wok 'n' Roll Express just east of Metcalf on 81st is the place to go. It opened within the past eighteen months, so is still newish.

The Pei Wei at 93rd & Metcalf isn't a Chinese food joint, instead a pan-Asian joint. The food's pretty good, though it doesn't offer much of a selection for being pan-Asian. Indeed, it doesn't offer much of a selection in comparison to any Chinese, Korean, or Thai restaurant I've been to. It is shiny new, however, if you're into trying new places.
