bring on da stoopid
Jul. 15th, 2006 05:19 pmFirst off, let me say that I'm in a splendid mood. What I'm about to relate can very easily come off as complaining without the cues of body language and tone of voice. Please know that I'm relaxed and happy and grinning about all of this. Nik = happy bunny.
Had a really great walking/running session on Thursday evening, followed by an introduction to fight night with the boffer barbarians and the heavy SCA fighters. I even managed to run about three of the five miles. Muscle fatigue was experienced, mother-daughter bonding happened, and much sweat was produced. I'll be going back for more hitting very, very soon. Ouch. And yay! (happy sigh)
Today was a 14-mile walk. And it was hot as balls, I tell you. I had sweat dripping from my earlobes. Here's where the stoopid part comes in. I'd brought a little lunchbag with some ice and extra water for afterwards. I'd also worn my contact lenses, so as to avoid dealing with my glasses slipping off my nose in the heat/sweat. Cleverly, I put the re-wetting drops in the bag with the ice, so they wouldn't get too hot. You can see where this is going, can't you?
Yup, I dripped the ice-cold re-wetting drops into my eyes right after I'd finished the walk. Body temperature was probably quite high, since I'd been walking for about five hours and the heat was hovering just about 100 degrees at that point. Yow.
Unfortunately, it took a few seconds for the shock to set in, so I'd hit both eyes before I figured out what had happened. Brain freeze, administered right through my optic nerve. Wow, did that ever hurt. This is what it must feel like to be blinded by pain, I thought. I'm surprised the contact lenses didn't do something awful to my eyes. More awful-er than the pain, I mean. Thankfully, I'd brought my glasses...so, once I'd stopped cursing, I was able to remove the lenses. That was amazingly stoopid. I gave myself points. You know, as if this were something to track.
Now, I've had a cool shower and a bit of a nap (thanks to
agrnmn). Brain freeze headache is fading and blisters from the walk are minimal. Yay! I might do some plastering later this evening and hope sincerely to get some high-quality sleep tonight. Whatever I do, I will certainly be hiding inside...way far away from the weather, trying not to sweat anymore.
