Support Your Local Breasts!
Mar. 28th, 2006 03:07 pmDear Friends,
By now, many of you have heard that I’ve registered for the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I keep hearing how it’s going to change my life. Don’t know ‘bout that, but I do know that I’m hoping to bring change to a lot of other lives along the way. Update: the 3-Day here in Kansas City is September 15-17.
Like the uninsured and underinsured women who can’t afford mammograms, and end up catching their breast cancer only after it’s too late. Like the women undergoing treatment, who discover that they need comfort, education and support just as much as the latest medical interventions. Like the husbands and children and friends, who are terrified of losing their favorite woman well before her time.
Yeah, I figure that’s worth some sweat equity. Don’t you?
I’ll be putting one foot in front of the other over the next several months, getting ready. But believe me when I tell you that covering 60 miles is the easy part. This is one serious fundraising event. If you know me at all, you know how I feel about setting the bar high, and the Breast Cancer 3-Day doesn’t pull any punches. With my registration, I’m committed to raise $2,200. My personal goal is $5,000.
If you’re one of the people who promised to give if I did this, thank you in advance. Now is the time to pony up! All you other folks – there’s no time like the present. Give early...give often. Please use this link to visit my fundraising page. It’s fast and secure, and I won’t have to handle your money.
Your donation will go directly to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, with a portion set aside for the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. They do excellent work, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of millions of breasts...er, people. :)
In service (and support),
Nicole
P.S. Special thanks to the clever and creative people who submitted userpics for the theme. I'll be cycling through them all. Watch this space for (possibley NSFW) opportunities to support this endeavor.
