So, somebody has planted the idea in my head that I need to do the Breast Cancer 3-Day here in Kansas City come September. With the lunchtime walking I've been doing, I've already achieved the "training level" I need to start their 24-week ramp-up program. Research indicates it's a very well executed event, and it's a cause that's near and dear to my heart. They require a pretty significant fundraising commitment -- they set the bar at $2,200 or more, which I respect -- and there seems to be a lot of support from the event organizers for creative and cooperative fundraising over the next several months. Hell, considering my line of work, it'd be shameful if I couldn't do it. There's an orientation session this weekend, I think, so I'll let folks know if I'm going to take it on.

Also, I'll be traveling to Atlanta for a fundraising conference at the beginning of April. Does anybody here in LJ-land have recommendations for nifty places to seek out on evenings during which charm with clients and colleages will not be asked of me?

Oh hell, yes. Where's the conference hotel? I assume you're flying -- are you renting a car, or relying on rides/public transit?

We're flying in Friday night, and using cabs to get around, I believe. The conference itself is at the World Conference Center downtown, and the Marriott Marquis (where I'm staying) is within walking distance. We'll be cabbin' it.

Dogwood festival was fun the time [livejournal.com profile] ocarina and I went -- not sure if that's the right weekend for you, though. Have poked the old roomie/Atlanta native to post you anything else she might think of.

Yeah, that's the wrong weekend. Looks like a really excellent time, though. Thanks!

FWIW, I've been checking out undergound Atlanta (http://www.underground-atlanta.com/) for future Dragoncons. Several places there *seem* pretty nifty.
