Unscheduled Goofy Happiness

Despite many physically circumstantial discomforts today, I'm in a wonderful mood. The sun is shining, it's Friday, tomorrow is the Winter Bazaar, and I get to make cranberry-cinnamon muffins and other cranberry-cinnamon based goodies tonight.

I can neither confirm nor deny rumors that there will be a chicken in the basket.

Bagsies!

One of the loaves can be transferred directly to my car. I'll write a check.

You're talking about the cranberry bread? (hee!)

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I nearly didn't make those last year, because I didn't want to be "the cranberry lady," but then there were requests. So, hey. Maybe I'll make extra this year. :)

The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone should forward that to me! While I don't have the awesome powers [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold wields in other fields, I feel that I can measure up in the realm of baked goods.

Speaking of baked good for winter bazaar, what's a good brand of bourbon?

Here's to midnight baking!

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
For cooking I prefer good old Jimmy Beam.

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
For baking, I'd go with Jack Daniels. You want good bourbon, but not so good that baking with it is a sacrilege.

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the Jack too, but it strikes me as having more of a grainy taste. It's good with meats and sauces, but I'm a white-label baker :)

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, my real answer as to whether or not there's a good bourbon is "no." I was more about the not getting crap bourbon because it's "just" for baking. Point noted, should I ever been in the unlikely position of needing to bake with bourbon.

There's a reason I make rum balls, you see. :-)

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. You crazy Celts. Why does it gotta be scotch *or* bourbon? I mean, it's not like they're the Cubs and the Yankees. You can like both. I mean, I do. I'm biwhiskial. Which I think means that I have whiskers on both sides.

Also, I understand that you drink brandy, which is naaaausty, but unfortunately, we can't prosecute you for that. :)

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like bourbon. Blasphemy for a Southerner, I know. I'll drink rum, scotch, tequila, Irish whiskey (and spell it right), Southern Comfort, vodka, and any number of other libations. I won't drink bourbon. Or gin.

And mmmm, brandy.

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] zylch.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, but since I don't generally drink bourbon, and won't need a whole bottle for the recipe, I want to get something I can serve to my friends who *are* bourbon drinkers.

Besides, as one of my chefly friends pointed out in college, if you're adding something for the flavor (bourbon, rum, wine, whatever), then don't you want to use something that tastes good?

Re: The Shortbread Recipe

[identity profile] fionnabhar.livejournal.com 2005-12-10 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly my point. You just don't need something so good that you actually ruin it by using it to cook with.

I thought I had given that to you already (I think it was in a comment on a post a year or so ago, but don't hold me to it). If it isn't still in a box somewhere I'll see if I can get it and post it.

Where is the winter bazaar this year?

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The Ivanhoe Masonic Temple, 8640 Holmes Road. Coming?

Will do -- check my journal.

[identity profile] starwyse.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to do my best tomorrow to add that to the list of things to do...

Why the Masonic Temple?

[identity profile] featherynscale.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Because one of our members is also one of their members, and they were willing to rent him a reasonably-sized hall for relatively little money, whereas our usual Sunday home was unwilling to rent to us on a Saturday at all.

[identity profile] starwyse.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice to have connections. Hopefully I will see you tomorrow!!

We'll be there. I'll be the one in the Santa hat.
