Jul. 5th, 2005 03:16 pmAn update after a long weekend frenzy.
This weekend, thanks to some help from friends and a surprisingly agreeable Coatle, we got more done than we've managed in a couple of months. In fact, several things are to the point where a couple of hours at a time is making a dramatic difference.
Carpeting has been removed from the stairs and the second-floor landing, revealing harwood floor in beautiful shape. My hands gave out and started blistering after only about five steps (there were a stupid number of staples to pull out), even after I switched over to using my left hand. It was a stinky and sneezy job, and I'm grateful to
agrnmn for finishing it up so efficiently. Very little blood was shed.
Both
featherynscale and
kittenpants were heroes for filling in the staple holes. I looked up at them and despaired of ever finishing off what seemed like dozens of holes in each of the fifteen stair facings. Also,
kittenpants has a clever idea for decorating those very facings. Thank you.
Deglazing and painting in the entryway is more than halfway finished, thanks to help from
triadruid, who was also marvelously destructive when it came to removing doors from their frames. Everything there has at least its first coat of paint; some of it has its second coat. Lots has been taped, and it's so nice to have less of that yellowy-white trim visible.
Tonight, I should focus on deglazing and first-coat painting of the back hallway so that the fecking deglazer can be put away. It's a high priority to finish painting the frame and doors for the linen closet (those are some of the doors off their hinges right now), so the Coatl will have less access to dog food and pharmaceuticals. I should also wash the stairs so the wood will gleam encouragingly at me. And maybe put the final coat of paint on the doors for the dining room cabinets so they can be mounted again.
Or, I could just go to bed, which sounds better every time I consider it, if I'm really honest. I'm very tired, and a bit hung over today from all the sugary indulgences this weekend (which were so totally worth it).
After that, we will have done about all we can until there's more of a budget for materials like ceiling tiles and lighting. Whew.
