Everything really *is* big here.
Jun. 15th, 2005 10:03 pmI'm here in Dallas now, and everything really does seem big. I don't know that it's all bigger than anything else, but most of it is sure bigger than necessary.
For instance, on the bus ride from the terminal to the rental car center, the seat was Big enough that my feet didn't touch the floor. I think I nearly died in the 20 yards between the bus and the rental car. It's ungodly hot here for a Yankee chick.
Then, the car we rented turned out to be a Ford Expedition, which actually has an extra step/running board built in so passengers can climb up into their seats. My hotel room (mine, all mine) has two king-sized beds and two sinks in the bathroom. There is also enough floor space that I have the luxury of doing my morning yoga just about anywhere in the room, too.
I wonder how many times we'll be called upon to pray tomorrow? The day starts with a 7:30 a.m. "continental breakfast," followed by Morning Devotions. I am cheered by the fact that there's an Asian Art exhibit happening in the hotel. At nearly any given moment, my eyes can find a Buddha, or a dragon, or some other lovely carved item that has nothing to do with Salvation. I don't have anything against prayer or salvation, really, just with the absolute lack of tolerance for any other religion. ::sigh::
On the other hand, that was some pretty good ice cream at the Welcoming reception tonight.
Ohm, baby.

If you're looking for something scarily big, though, go outside of an evening and see if you can find some mosquitos. You're looking for the ones that are big enough that you can see their tiger strips with the naked eye. Don't let them bite you, though -- the bites turn purple after a day or two, and they itch badly enough to wake you up in tears. And on the off-chance you have some time to get over to White Rock Lake, there's a lovely walk along the dam at the south end. Good times, good times.
