Two Things

First, my workplace issued the "It Can Wait" challenge to all employees. I declined to tag the corporate sponsor of the effort, as well as my workplace, in the FB post...but hey, worthwhile initiative anyway. I just won't be eligible for the $50 gift card drawing. Keeping work and personal life as separate as possible is worth the opportunity cost. :)

I'm really terrible about texting and driving, and who am I to claim some special dispensation or superpower, when the choice puts people in my car and the cars around me in danger? This will be a challenge for me. To help, I'm researching "drive mode" applications. The one AT&T has out there seems pretty good, but I can't install it on my phone because I've got Sprint service. Sprint's service is part-and-parcel with their Safely Family utility, which just veers too close to Big Brother for my comfort. (This is what I'm testing at the moment. I figure the 15-day free trial period lets me take action on my pledge, while I do some homework and find a better app.) Anybody have any recommendations?

Second, my parents and [livejournal.com profile] diermuid's parents are meeting for the first time this weekend. I'm not as nervous as I could be, I guess. They're all really nifty people, and -- even with predictable friction points -- more mellow than they were even five or ten years ago. Matthew has suggested that, if I'm sensitive about whether the house is clean enough for company, I should just wear a low-cut shirt and direct guests to keep their "eyes up here, please." I suspect he has an ulterior motive, which delights me enough that I'll probably cross-post and re-post until you're all tired of hearing it. :)

YOU STOP THAT. RIGHT NOW.

I won't even talk to people on the phone if they're driving. I've been known to hang up on my parents when I realized they were operating a car.

Good for you for quitting that. Because you are quitting it. Right? Right.

Well, we can't have Watson being all disappointed in me, can we?
