I did it! I rode my bike to work today. It took about 30 minutes door-to-door, which isn't too bad -- I think I went a bit faster than our test ride over the weekend. (Driving my car takes about 15 minutes door-to-door, what with stoplights and parking, so the time differential isn't too awful either.) It's an easy enough ride that I didn't arrive all drenched with sweat, but it took enough effort that I feel a little bit righteous now. It'll be warmer for the ride home, but I don't have to worry so much about being all red in the face when I arrive.

We also rode our bikes to and from TKD class last night, so that was a pretty awesome block of time in which we were putting out meaningful cardo effort. Go, us! I'm still pudgier than I wanna be, but I feel like my level of effort and activity is getting healthier all the time.

Of course, I was so preoccupied with timing this morning that I forgot to eat breakfast and failed to bring along my security badge and desk keys. Having to call [livejournal.com profile] diermuid to please deliver those sort of undermined the fuel-efficiency mojo of the whole effort, but I like to think I'll get better at the logistics of it all.

It won't work for *every* day, what with weather and other scheduling concerns (like that 0730 conference call on Tuesdays), but doing it at least once a week during the warmer months would be nifty.

Good for you! I have no doubt that you'll get the logistics figured out; perfectly understandable being preoccupied the first morning you try it.

Go you!!

And thank you for the Big Cosmic Reminder that even if something doesn't go perfectly on the first try, it's still worth making the attempt and you still get full points for the round. You = mighty!

I doubt it will go perfectly very often, what with the variables involved. But I hope it will be good enough, frequently enough, to make it an attractive option. (This sort of adventure continues to teach me a lot about the pursuit of perfection.)

I'm also happy that it's automatically built in about 60 minutes of mild-to-moderate cardiovascular, large-muscle effort than I would have in a typical day.
