almost through
May. 19th, 2011 01:17 pmYesterday was a great day of pleasant social contact and marvelously unwise food choices. I'm paying for it a bit today, but WOW was it ever great to enjoy an old-fashioned chocolate milkshake, lunch with hubby
diermuid, and evening coffee with
fionnabhar (which included bonus! lemon! cake!).
This weekend promises to hold plenty of chances to maybe do some things and maybe not do other things. No kid actitivities to manage or attend...nobody to transport to other places for their own social calendar at the expense of anything I'd prefer to be doing. I'm unreasonably excited about this.
Summertime doesn't hold a lot of actual vacation for me, but the hiatus in many of the academic-year activities is really wonderful. The incremental reduction in the number of people wondering what's for dinner will also be a relief. And my parents are going to gift us with pool passes again this summer for my birthday! Very exciting!
In other news, my father is retiring again, this time from his teaching. He and Mom are looking forward to more time together and he's looking forward to generally doing less and not getting up at 5:30 am anymore. (He also says he doesn't ever want to wear a tie ever again.) Mom's functioning has stabilized for now, but there's a lot she's afraid to do on her own when nobody else is in the house to help if she loses her balance. Should be the beginning of a delightful new phase for the two of them. :)
