Back from the Action-Tastic Weekend
May. 2nd, 2011 09:28 amIt was an action-packed weekend!
Taekwondo belt testing went well. I think all four of us passed, but it'll be interesting to see what our actual scores were. This is good progress on my 101 in 1001 goal of reaching blue belt. (I'd like to eventually reach black belt rank, but that might take longer than 1001 days.) Onward!
FionaPie and I had a great time at Camp Prairie Schooner. We got there a couple of hours before everybody else. Silly me, I'd mis-remembered when to be there. So we put on some bug spray, grabbed our hats and water bottles, and hit the nature trails. Lots of fun tracks to check out and rocky bits to scramble up and down. The girls did a pretty good job of setting the Troop menu for the weekend. One big leveling-up moment for me was being appointed the camp's "firestarter." I ended up *teaching* the girls how to start and build a fire, and then tended it through the evening and put it to bed at night. The next morning, I started and built one all the way on my own while everyone else was rapelling; the coals were *perfect* by the time they got back all chilly and hungry for early lunch. It will surprise nobody that Fi was a maniac while rapelling. Win!
The skating party in the afternoon was a lot of fun, even though I still smelled like campfire. (We changed at the gas station bathroom on the way from camp!) Great times with good friends, plus cupcakes. Whew.
Then it was home for unpacking, bathing, yummy chili for dinner, and an early bedtime. Like WAY early. I think I was zonked by 8 p.m. and dear gods did I need it.
Many thanks to
diermuid, who was very much the Man on Hand for all the busy kids and PB, who stepped up to be a pretty heroic sister at KiraDeara's soccer game on Sunday.
