diermuid was extra-super-delighted to see that they board snakes and other exotic animals.
Han weighed in at 0.33 kg, while Chewie was the "chubby" one at 0.40 kg -- both of them healthy weights for their age and breed. Got some great advice on feeding and nutrition...I was particularly curious whether young buns had radically different needs. Their lungs and hearts sound good; muscle tone and abdomens feel the way they should.
Alas, it's still too early to tell what sex they are. The alarming thing is that bunnies will reproduce as soon as they're ready and -- bonus! -- right about the time we'd be able to discern whether one of them has testicles and the other does not, they could be...well, humping like bunnies. It also isn't safe to just dive in and sterilize them until they reach that Magical Age, either. Statistically speaking, we've got a 50% chance that they'll be a mixed-sex pair. CURSES.
At the moment, they're about 11 weeks old, so we've got a few weeks before OMGBOINKING time, but they currently share a cage. I need to learn more about how to approach this so we can avoid becoming accidental breeders. Anybody got any suggestions? (I'm looking at you,tryst_inn.)
Those worries aside, they're doing really well and the teens are pretty awesome about keeping an eye on their physical and social needs. We're going to see about litter-box training the buns, since they so clearly have a "pooping corner" in the cage. The girls have even been willing to learn how to palpate for Possibly Descending Testicles, which they're kind enough to do when their brothers are NOT nearby. So that's not all bad. :)
