Made it through my LASIK just fine this morning, with many thanks to the excellent folks at Durrie who know what they're doing likewhoa. And not just in technical terms; they really had those comforting/guiding nonverbal touchpoints DOWN.

So I'm taking it easy now, with all the curtains closed and some quiet while the menfolk are off helping a fellow Scout with his Eagle project. Rewetting drops every 15-30 minutes and an aggressive schedule of other medicated eyedrops for the next several days. Discomfort is very mild so far, though I reported a definite difference in my right and left eye for the clinical trial I'm participating in. (No way could I have afforded the surgery myself!)

My 24-hour visit is tomorrow morning, and my vision has already improved to the point where it seems just a bit hazy...sort of like I'm wearing an older prescription or have smudges on my glasses. Here I am, watching television from the couch with my naked eyes. JUMP. BACK.

ETA: About ten hours later, and my vision is very much as if I were wearing my contact lenses on a high-allergy day -- mostly clear but with a bit of goopiness -- if that makes any sense. And that's pretty much how it feels. Not a lot of irritation anymore, though there's still relief when I use the chilled eyedrops. Kind of hating the medicated eyedrops (both the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory ones), because they sting and leave a weird taste at the back of my throat. Very much looking forward to sleep tonight.

Thank you! The computer screen is awfully bright for me today, but I figured an update was manageable. More later, perhaps. :)

You're certainly doing better than I did. I couldn't even open my eyes for hours after the surgery. I could manage the briefest of squints (to keep from running into things) but mostly I just stayed on the couch, in the dark. =D

I look forward to hearing about your progress.

The day ain't over yet, and it'll be several hours before I can go to sleep. ::yawn:; Trying to stay busy and keep up with my re-wetting drops, wearing sunglasses inside.

In retrospect, I'm glad I wound up with an afternoon surgery.

It was a surpassingly weird experience. A bazillion different types of eyedrops throughout the course of the procedure, and so many pieces of cyborg-appropriate equipment! And [livejournal.com profile] diermuid watched!

That's awesome! How did you get signed up for the clinical trial thing? Are they still taking people?

This one is closed for now...they only needed 18 people. My eye doctor recommended me directly to Durrie Vision because he happened to know about it and thought I'd be a good candidate, but Durrie does a lot of different testing throughout the year. Calling them might put you on a list?

I'm going in tomorrow for a consultation...I'd like to put you down as who referred me, if that's alright. If so, what is your last name?
