style FAILURE
Sep. 16th, 2008 09:10 amYesterday, our intrepid (and mildly vain) heroine discovered that volumizing mousse is not a Great Idea with her hair. As if we need more volume. FLOOF, is what we had. Sheesh.
Today, the hair straightening thing was so weird that the hair had to be wetted down for a soft reboot of sorts. Perhaps somebody with more skill and a lot of time would have manifested something more successful, but that somebody is Not Me.
Live and learn, right? ::sigh::

Date: 2008-09-16 09:25 pm (UTC)Some suggestions:
1. Try a product like Hang Straight from Aveda or Victoria's Secret So Sexy Straightening Gel (smells awesome) in your hair before blowdrying. Use an amount the size of a nickel. Rub in your hands first and then, starting at the back of your head and ends of your hair, gradually rake your fingers closer to roots. Too much product on your roots makes your hair look greasy.
2. Using a flat brush, blowdry your hair with the blower POINTING DOWN (as in, the air flowing from roots to ends). The more you can pull the hair straight with the brush, the smoother it will be. DO NOT flip your hair over and blowdry upside down, or direct airflow up towards roots. This will make your hair poofy.
3. If using a flatiron, get a pea-size amount of styling cream, rub your hands together, rake through hair. Flatironing works best if you do it in sections (I can show you in person), but you can do a quick iron of the top-most layers if you don't have time for the whole shebang.
Now, if you're going for curl, I cannot recommend Aveda Get Curly lotion enough. What I do is this: towel dry hair, scrunch in a mousse designed to hold curls, then rub in the Get Curly lotion and some Aveda Flaxseed Aloe gel. Then, I dry my hair on low with a diffuser so that it doesn't frizz.
Don't despair! It does take some experimentation and tips from hairdressers. :)

I know. Hopeless. :)
