Because I can't concentrate today.
Jul. 10th, 2008 02:19 pmShuffling a lot of papers and getting caught up on things, which is good (and, thankfully, about all I'd planned to accomplish today).
So.
1. What movie have you seen the most times in the theater? How many times?
Probably (i>Top Gun. It played for a long time at NATO US-SUPACT, and there wasn't much else to do on a summer evening if one couldn't drive. Tickets were only about $2, including popcorn.
2. What was the last movie you walked out of in the theater?
I remember having to leave Into the Wild when the Peril was too much for Kira, but I don't think that counts. (We calmed down in the hallway for a while before going back in.) Other than that, I think I only walked out of The Unbearable Lightness of Being back in 1989.
3. What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
Peter Pan. I stood up and shouted at the screen during the Last Conflict on the pirate ship, "Look out! He's right behind you!"
4. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
Good heavens. I really don't think I can name one favorite. I *love* the soundtracks from Oceans' 11/12/13, as well as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the original Blade. There's lots more, if I put my mind to digging them up. Much more about the emotional impact of the movement and groove than lyrics.
5. Have you ever dressed up as a movie character for Halloween? If so, who?
No. I once said I was Professor Sprout's lesbian neice, but that's because I didn't want to bother with actually putting on a costume. It was a distressingly apt description of my look.
6. What was the first R-rated movie you ever saw? Were you allowed or did you sneak?
I can't remember. It might have been Staying Alive, with a sleek and sweaty John Travolta.
7. Star Wars (orig. trilogy) or Lord of the Rings?
Lord of the Rings.
8. Pacino or DeNiro?
(Going to steal
lilia_blackbear's description here: DeNiro. Hands down. Because he can be one scary-ass gangster mother-fu**er, but one funny as hell cross-dressing captain sky-pirate.
9. Titanic...did it suck or was it great?
It was among the most boring movies I've ever seen in my life.
10. What's your take on Cassavetes?
I swear, I'd have to look up who Cassavetes is, but I have a definite opinion about Uwe Boll.
11. Favorite John Hughes character?
Er. Dunno. I'll say Count Thibault of Malfete (Jean Reno) in Just Visiting, even though I only rented the flick to hear the man talk.
12. What movie gives you a boner (or makes you tingle)?
The people who need to know the answer to this question already know. I feel no great desire to share even more. :)
13. What movie always makes you cry like the big puss you are?
There are so many, I don't know where to start. Heck, I cry like a baby during 300 and Battlestar Galactica.
14. What's the furthest you've ever gotten in a movie theater? (i.e, second base...)
Not telling.
15. Speaking of sports metaphors, what's your favorite sports movie?
Currently? Stick It.
16. (a) Favorite... teen movie?
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
(b)...Quentin Tarantino movie?
None. I hated Pulp Fiction, and just about anything else I've seen that he's done, even when I didn't know it was his work.
(c)...Bill Murray movie?
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, but he's got some other stuff out there I haven't seen yet, which could also be awesome. For what it's worth, that movie *also* made me cry.
(d)...romantic comedy?
Oh, man. This is hard. Princess Bride.
(e)...gangster movie??
Get Shorty, which also had an excellent soundtrack. (Maybe that's stretching the genre, but there you go.)
(f)...horror movie?
I pretty much avoid horror movies. Big chicken, I am, and comfortable with my cowardice.
(g)...made for TV movie?
V (the series, from the 80s)
(h)...director?
Don't really have one. But I don't really like much of anything by M. Night Shabamazam (or whatever his name is). Tim Burton also creeps me the fuck out.
(i)...drug movie?
I tend not to like movies that have, as a central plot point, people self-destructing.
17. What movie have you seen already but will never, ever, ever watch again?
Velvet Goldmine. I just truly didn't get it. (shrug) More for
featherynscale, right?
18. What movie are you embarrassed to really like?
Some of that Jason Statham stuff from my birthday ranks right up there. I'm grateful to have friends who enjoy watching stupid movies. I also have a weakness for Jean Claude VanDamme.
19. What movie should be remade asap?
Meh. I don't really care. I will say that I detest black & white film (and television), so maybe there's something that I might really like, if it were in color. Whatever.
20. What the F happened to (insert answer)? He used to be so damn funny!
Mike Meyers.
21. For the love of everything that's sacred, please someone stop (insert answer) from making another movie!
M. Night Shabamazam.
22. What movie do all your friends love but you think is whatevs?
RHPS. I saw it once, just to say I'd seen it, but I kept being disappointed that it wasn't over yet. You'll all unfriend me now, I'm sure.
23. What movie do you love but all your friends think is whatevs?
The list is too long to type out here. Xanadu comes to mind.
24. If you could hump/date/marry any movie character, who would it be?
The mind boggles.
25. Best...movie....ever?
This is the suckiest question ever. I have a hard time naming favorites; saying something is the best ever is beyond me.
26. Book you wish would be made into a movie, and who would direct it?
Clearly, I need to read more. I just finished reading a book recommended to me by
princessboredom, called Things Unseen. It's a pretty tight story and I think the timeline and plot points would translate well to the big screen, even though it's a very teen/coming-of-age kind of thing. A director with a soft touch and an eye for character would be cool. Maybe Sofia Coppola? I don't know why I'm saying that, but I think she did interesting things with some movies I've seen.
Wow, I sure dither a lot when I'm trying to say whether something is my "favorite" or the "best/worst ever."

Date: 2008-07-10 09:36 pm (UTC)I liked James and the Giant Peach as a movie, but that may have been because I had brain-crushes on many of the actors involved in the project. Kind of a gruesome story.
