What a full and fun weekend!
Friday night egg-blowing.
Wild Hare (Proto)Grove Ostara went Germanic, which meant (among other things) that we decorated eggs. Specifically, we blew 'em out and then dyed them. Since we had quite a few kids around, there were a few moments that got Very Exciting. But the first omen (the one that would indicate how our offerings and work were received) was Apple. So we figured it was not only Good and sweet, but also some assurance that we didn't have to worry about anybody contracting salmonella. And then we made something very much like frittata to share for dinner. So, win-win-win.
Run and run and run and BOP.
But first, we had to DRIVE. Saturday morning, I drove up to Omaha and took a right to attend an Amtgard event near Neola, Iowa, where we sure felt that spring travels north at only 15 miles/day. Brr! Still, there was a lot of park land to run around in -- deer trails and scrub brush and trees and open areas and hills -- and lots of friendly people that soothed my first-event-jitters right away. I wouldn't say they were ALL "My People," but they were a great group to spend the day with, and I'd like to attend more of those events. Bonus ego points: I got assigned to the "flanking team" nearly every time one was needed, and generally managed to show the young 'uns not to underestimate the pudgy old broad when it came to covering terrain, hour after hour after hour. (There was a particularly goofy moment, when we were circling the back half of the lake -- about a half-mile -- when I giggled, remembering the "release run" scene with Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge.) The feast afterwards was well-run and OMG cherry cobbler. Plus, I got to see a couple of friends I've missed for several years...including a godson that was still in diapers when I last saw him. Wow.
Stoopid TV Mythology
I was surprisingly not-sore when I got out of the car at home on Saturday night, and also when I got out of bed on Sunday morning. YAY. Mostly, I felt splendidly unwound. When the girls got home, we went out to the park to enjoy the sunshine for a little while, and then convened at home for a dinner of soup and sandwiches. After that, it was time to sit on our butts to watch my newest Netflix delivery: The Mists of Avalon. I remembered it (the TV version) as being pretty silly when I watched the mini-series, but it was even more silly to watch all at once like that. Why did all the men's hair look so terrible? Ah, well. Not a bad way for us all -- including
diermuid and his kids -- to while away an end-of-spring-break Sunday evening. Next up in the queue: Another BSG disk!
Bonus: Terrible, awful, splendid t-shirts. I got an unexpected Easter-like gift from
agrnmn yesterday, too. He'd found a shirt on shirt.woot that defies description, so I'll link to a photo. According to
princessboredom, I should wear it to strike fear into the hearts of mice the next time I'm out, hoppin' through the forest. :)

Today, I'm working from home with the kids, who don't return to school until tomorrow. We're gradually getting things in order here at the house, doing some grocery shopping, and generally soaking up some sunbeams. ::happy sigh::
