A few weeks ago, [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale gave me four BPAL imps and I'm finally remembering to test them out. I don't know if it was a random assortment or just a few she thought I might like.

Rosalind. This was a very light fragrance, what I'd call "work day appropriate." My first impression was of very gentle yellow (like sunlight) and a light green. That pretty much jives with BPAL's description, which I looked up this morning: Dew-covered berries and fresh green grasses with a faint breath of spring flowers. (Illyria)

It didn't last more than a few hours, even after I applied it liberally (because it was so light and pretty). This is the sort of scent that doesn't so much get noticed on its own, but which tends to get a comment of "oh, you smell nice!" when someone is hugging you. I kind of like that about it.

There's a second one that I started to try this morning, but the dominant amber smell (at least, I *think* it was amber) was so strong when I removed the stopper that I had to go put my nose in the coffee canister. Yuck. There are people on whom I like the smell of amber, but it's very rare that this scent does not make me feel ill. Like, carsick and about to puke ill. Will have to check the tag for the name of this one when I get home. Thank goodness I didn't put it on my skin. Reminded me of Calvin Klein's Obsession, except MORE.

ETA: Huh. If this flash of memory is correct, then this one was Shango, which description contains not a drop of amber. Wonder what it was about this one that turned my stomach? That would be useful to know. Here's the last bit of BPAL's narrative: The Master of Lightning’s ofrenda contains red apples, banana, chili pepper, coconut, pineapple, pomegranate and sugar cane.

Urania. I put this one on at the office after having cleared my sinuses of the yucky one. It seemed to be a slightly more complicated and assertive version of Rosalind. It's lasting quite a bit longer and "reads" to my nose like perfume.

BPAL's description: The Heavenly One is the Muse of Astrology and Astronomy, and guides all those who look to the stars for knowledge. She wears a flowing cloak embroidered with her beloved stars, holds a staff and a globe, and her eyes are skyward. Her scent is that of endless, star-clad space: glittering, cool, vast. Moonflower, Moroccan jasmine, benzoin, white musk, iris, moss and a flash of ozone. (The Muses)

Moonlight and magic are two of my very favorite themes, but I think the jasmine is the only scent I would have identified in that mix. I like it very much, despite the way it makes me giggle when I say the name.

One more at home to go! Nuit. Not gonna look up the description just yet.

It was mostly a random assortment, with the exception of Nuit, which I was pretty sure you'd like. Let me know!

You can have Shango back, babe, if you liked it yourself. I bet I will appreciate it smelling awesome on somebody, someday, but I don't even want it in the house right now. Ook.

Still, I'm captivated by the narrative on the BPAL site for each concoction. WOW. I'd love to be able to write like that.
