So. I found this meme while wandering around friends' friends lists, and thought it was nifty. Mostly because I absolutely could not name songs for this list, but I bet lots of you can. (Insert moment of silence, grieving the total lack of musical variety and general non-Top-40 awareness in my life.)

It's pretty simple (especially since I've edited it from its original version): Just create a list of music that you feel best fits the tracklist. Be as abstract or literal or unified theory as you wish. No need to provide downloads -- all the challenge calls for is a list of titles and artists. Clever commentary is optional. I will take all recommendations as an indication that you think I should go listen to whatever song, and will do my best to obey. (That's the bossing around part.)

Wanna play?

1. A piratey song
2. A song for an unexpectedly rainy morning.
3. A song that would fit in on Sesame Street.
4. A peppermint sort of song.
5. A song for mowing the lawn.
6. A song that has the letter V in the title.
7. A song about he done me wrong. (Or she, if you'd rather.)
8. A song for when the network is down.
9. A song about anatomy.
10. A song that mentions butterflies.
11. A song to vogue to that isn't actually Vogue.
12. A song for a car chase.
13. A song that calls for w00t.
14. A song for saving the world.

I can't leave out the commentary!

1. A piratey song - The Jolly Rogers - A Drop of Nelson's Blood (okay, it's more of an alcoholic sailor-y song, but that's pretty close, yes?)
2. A song for an unexpectedly rainy morning. - Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand
3. A song that would fit in on Sesame Street. - REM & Kate Bush - Shiny Happy People (I think that was actually on Sesame Street!)
4. A peppermint sort of song. - Sublime - Date Rape (There's a reason why, but it's not obvious, and sounds pretty stupid, even in my head.)
5. A song for mowing the lawn. - The Clash - Rock the Casbah (Only because dude is wearing a gas mask in the video, which is what I need in order to mow the lawn.)
6. A song that has the letter V in the title. Puscifer - REV 22:20
7. A song about he done me wrong. (Or she, if you'd rather.) Traveling Wilburys - Last Night
8. A song for when the network is down. - Pink Floyd - Hey You
9. A song about anatomy. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Into My Arms (Okay. It's not about anatomy. But it has arms in it, and I'm not gonna be able to pass up any make-a-list-of-songs opportunity without sneaking in at least one Nick Cave song.)
10. A song that mentions butterflies. - The Smiths - Reel Around the Fountain ("You can pin and mount me.... like a butterfly". My favorite insect-related lyric in the history of the world)
11. A song to vogue to that isn't actually Vogue. - Depeche Mode - Halo (Has a lot of sudden stops in, which I think is the requirement)
12. A song for a car chase. - Ministry - Jesus Built My Hot Rod
13. A song that calls for w00t. - The Violent Femmes - Kiss Off
14. A song for saving the world. - Disturbed - Land of Confusion (Better than the original! A rarity!)

I was wondering about that one, but thought perhaps my loathing for the song was throwing my recollections out of whack....

Down with random! A theme...

All Tori Amos songs, because it's actually more challenging for me.

1. A piratey song -- Snow Cherries From France (which isn't pirate style, but has the lyrics, "They look like pirates from here/Boy, I've been one for years")
2. A song for an unexpectedly rainy morning. -- Happy Phantom
3. A song that would fit in on Sesame Street. -- Humpty Dumpty
4. A peppermint sort of song. -- Daisy Dead Petals
5. A song for mowing the lawn. -- Indian Summer
6. A song that has the letter V in the title. -- Velvet Revolution
7. A song about he done me wrong. (Or she, if you'd rather.) -- Not David Bowie (This was the hardest because, to choose just one...)
8. A song for when the network is down. -- Space Dog
9. A song about anatomy. -- Frog on My Toe
10. A song that mentions butterflies. -- Sleeps with Butterflies
11. A song to vogue to that isn't actually Vogue. -- Raspberry Swirl
12. A song for a car chase. -- A Sorta Fairytale
13. A song that calls for w00t. -- Take to the Sky
14. A song for saving the world. -- Father's Son (Which is more anti-war, showing the stupidity of it, especially the one in the desert... and, it has perhaps the greatest Tori line EVAR, "Can you blame nature if she's had enough us?"
