saffronhare: (Because I'm the Mom)

This afternoon, my mother arrives for her annual Christmas shopping blitz. They live in Florida and have found that they're happier with the cost of a plane ticket and the gift of time with the kids than with shipping costs for gifts purchased and shipped from afar. (You know, except for the occassional Amazon purchase. My dad has mad Amazon skillz.) It's an agreeable weekend, even though it's a whirlwind. :)

For added excitement, this weekend also contains Princess !Kaboom's first gymnastics meet and Princess PrettySchool's actual birthday, in addition to her Birthday Princess Tea Party. Sheesh. I've got the day off work tomorrow, so we can do some ninja shopping. With any luck, all three girls will be in school -- fingers crossed that there are no sudden illnesses. Nonny hasn't seen the girls since this summer. Do you think maybe she's in for a surprise or two about how they've developed over the last six months? (grin)

I'm gonna be offline for most of the next few days. Not that I've been a postin' fool lately or anything, but hey. Squee!

This morning also presented me with the opportunity to demonstrate a little respect for how my mother (imperfectly) manages to respect my faith, whatever she might think it is. See, she pretends not to know anything about it. (An old Irish Catholic tradition, I imagine.) I recognize this as a coping mechanism for her, motivated by a desire to maintain the peace, so I try to relocate objects in the house that might disturb her selective ignorance. (Yes, I'm okay with this. My ego and my faith do not require me to be in her face at all.) Thankfully, the powers that be seem to understand. My omen for this morning was Willow...which is all about bowing gracefully to necessity and being flexible about stuff. :)

Note: This mood makes me giggle. When I was a kid, "Chipper" was a nickname for my brother. (His real name is Al -- after my father -- but we always called him Chip.) So I'm feeling goofy and family-minded. I'm having a hard time getting used to this new posting format. It's kind of weird. (shrug)
