The Breast Cancer 3-Day here in Kansas City begins with opening ceremonies at (I think) 6:30 a.m. on Friday, September 15th at the Kansas Speedway. Closing ceremonies take place on Sunday, September 17th right around dusk (I think) at the Veteran's Memorial. Both events are open to the public. I have no idea where the tent city will be for the overnights and probably couldn't tell you anyway, since visitors are discouraged for safety and stuff. It's like boarding school or something. :)

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] zylch -- can you tell me if there are cots in the tents, or will I need to plan on sleeping on the ground? Also, how weird is it that "paint fingernails and toenails with pretty pink polish" is on my Seriously, Must Do list for tonight?

In addition, there are some designated "cheering stations" along the way, where it is safe for friends and family to gather along the route. I have no way of knowing how I'd see you, or how you'd see me, but here you go. Heck, I don't even know how I'm going to manage to meet up with my own family after the closing ceremonies so I can go home. Looking at where these mile markers are and trying to imagine how the route plays out has me slipping back into my old Rhode Island mindset: this is wicked fah.

For cheering volunteers: Please take pictures! They may improve morale, or at the very least be useful for blackmail. Pat & I are "medical" volunteers for Saturday. We're on from 1 to 9 PM, somewhere in Shawnee I believe. I'm having trouble grasping the big picture of the event. How many hours are you expected to be running on Saturday?

Not running -- walking. They're very careful to say it's not a race and we're not *allowed* to run. Twenty miles each day, times three days = 60 miles total.

Awesome that you're volunteering. If you're medical support, though, please forgive me for saying I hope I don't see you. ;)

no cots, no. A thick sleeping bag or one of those compressable foam camping mats might be useful (avail. at backwoods, possibly Target or walmart too). Please don't pack an air mattress -- some people do, and it makes the baby jesus gear and tent crew cry.

As for your hair... honestly, I don't think you could anything better with it than what you've already done :)

We have a self-inflating air mattress.

I think I'm set for a sleeping pad. Just needed to know if I needed to have one, or what. Via -- When you say "air mattress," do you mean the actual bed-sized ones, or the self-inflating camping pads that I should not use?
