the mysteries of body composition
Aug. 9th, 2006 12:00 pmThis morning, a denim jumper failed to zip up the back. The jumper in question is a size 10, and only the most forgiving of size 10 garments are fitting me at this point. I'm not upset at all...and that's not the interesting bit. See, I wore that jumper for the Circle of Stones ritual back in mid-June. At that time, it didn't exactly zip easily, but it zipped. Well, huh.
It fit my hips and belly just fine both times -- no big change there. What's changing is the measurement around my ribcage. The cup size of my boobs seems to be shrinking, though some folks will be pleased to know that my nipples are not. No surprise there -- I'm likely to be a B cup pretty soon, which was normal for me before I started getting chubby post-pregnancy. Shoulder straps are also falling off. Like I can afford new bras right now. (sigh) And I can see enough of my ribs these days that those probably-permanent bruise-like markings in the middle of my torso are visible again. Which seems to indicate fat loss. But not being able to zip the dress? Maybe that means some muscle mass is beginning to return to my lats? I sure don't think the backfat (ick) is increasing. Hm. Possibly time to check in on measurements or something. (Every six months, I take "baseline" measurements. Then I lose them, so I can't compare them six months down the road. And then I do new "baseline" measurements. Gack.)
Rambling now. Nik out.
