stunning moment of self-awareness
Jul. 17th, 2006 01:12 pmAt some point last week,
akaashben mentioned that I should try Pandora.com as a mind-expanding musical experience. I started on Friday and had some fun with the whole thumbs up/thumbs down experience. They seem to be narrowing some things down -- I heard a song that I liked, only to click on it and discover that I'd already given it a thumbs-up. So I'm consistent.
Sadly, a song just came on which I liked. Why do I say "sadly," you ask? Well, it's kind of a soft-rock romantic groove thing (so sue me), and when I clicked over to my Pandora window to give it a thumbs up, I saw the artist: Lionel Ritchie. Overcome by the panic of uncool, I gave it a thumbs down and then had to go back and change that to a more honest thumbs up. ::sigh:: Gotta go with accuracy if I want this to work, right? I redeemed myself by immediately liking the next piece to come up: Don't Think Just Move, by Acroma. And, no, I wouldn't have clicked any old thing that wasn't Lionel Ritchie. :) Seriously considering setting up another station just to isolate all the uncoolness that I really love.
