I had a proud moment at work this morning that I wanted to share a bit more widely:

One of my writers (I say they're mine because I'm their supervisor) moped in to work a bit after 9 a.m., disappointed that the lines were so long at her polling place that she had to leave in order to get to work on time. After blinking at her for a moment, I asked her to point out her direct supervisor. Baffled, she pointed at me -- then rolled her eyes and said, "oh..."

After a moment of laughter, I handed her the newest issue of Nonprofit Quarterly and told her I didn't want to see her at work until she had her little I voted! sticker and advised her to at least use the time in line to catch up on some reading.

There are benefits, and then there are benefits.

Uncharacteristic fishing for complements from the Pillar of Severity.

I've stolen this meme from starwyse as an experiment. Here's how it goes:

1. Tell me one thing you love about me.

2. Tell me two things you love about yourself. This one i'm particularly interested in, so make it good.

3. Look through the comments... when you see someone you know, tell them three things you love about them.

4. Do this in your journal so I can tell you what I love about YOU - and if you've already done it, tell me so, so that I can go back and give you some love.

What's the catch? What does this have to do with Severity? Well, I will accept no excuses about being able to say two things you love about yourself. I also require that you believe the loving things that other people are going to say. Finally, I will be merciless (get it? Severity, not mercy?) about getting my Friends to post here.

Get over your pitiful selves. We are all competent, sexy bitches. So there. In the immortal words of otterdancing's daughter, "You just can't stop the love!"
