how to explain the spots

I'd like to enlist some creative assistance here. I've already tried the "pretend that I don't really have spots, and imply the person suggesting that I do is nuts" game. That was fun, but really only fun once.

Other ideas so far include:
1. They're faerie hickies.
2. You should see the other guy.
3. The ninjas are very demanding.
4. Pretty extreme tattoo, huh?
5. I probably shouldn't be at work until this flare-up passes. ah-choo!

Sunday, August 22nd - Riding the Lion
Gaia Community Ritual, 4 p.m.
Shawnee Mission UU Church

Across many myths and practices, "riding the lion" and the Tarot card associated with it (Strength) is about mastering -- or reining in -- destructive urges such as lust gone bad, power-mongering or uncontrollable anger (to name a few) so that we may be free to pursue our highest spiritual and worldly aspirations. On Sunday, August 22nd, we'll take our inspiration from the worship of Magna Mater, Cybele (or Kybele), on her Lion Throne by binding and sacrificing the "lions" that ride us into the ground. Be prepared for spellwork and extended dancing. It's okay if you're new or inexperienced -- or even if you need an alternative to dancing -- just come prepared for some hard work!

Tuesday, August 17th, 7-9 p.m.
Shawnee Mission UU Church

This is the third class in our second Triad: Exploring the Mid-Realm. We'll be talking about the mythology of the Underworld as a place of mystery and darkness, of death and rebirth, of wisdom and transformation. Through timeless stories of the Shining Ones, we'll find lessons to serve our modern lives. Although the classes have been building on each other for a few months, please don't let that stop you from joining us for the first time!

The Druid Study Group is open to friends and members of Gaia Community, as well as the general public. There is no class fee, but donations will be accepted to defray the cost of materials. If you need childcare, please contact me in person or by email at saffronhare@livejournal.com no later than 8 p.m. Sunday, August 15th so it can be arranged in advance.
