Time sure flies when you're having fun.
Nov. 30th, 2005 10:47 amHey, Alex! You're in this one. :)
20 years ago was November 1985
-- I was sixteen years old, a junior at Brussels American School. This was the year I met
ubernacht, and lived through the devastation of a crush that was never realized. ::sigh::
-- Transitioning from Cross-Country season (placed at Europeans) to basketball season, where I managed the boy's team because my ankles were so perflucked by XC and I really wanted to run track in the spring. (I played the next year.)
-- Went to homecoming with David Dodge, poor sod.
-- Cut my hair Pat Benatar short, though the ill-advised perm wouldn't be applied until a year later.
10 years ago was November 1995 (Now edited, to reflect correction of my time-space continuum. Thanks,
fionnabhar.)
-- I was 26 years old.
-- I was living inSt. Paul, MN with
agrnmn and Princess Boredom, who was just over six months old and Huge. North Providence, RI, commuting by train to BU as I worked on my MS.
--Pulling out of my funk after having been fired by the Clinton/Gore campaign in 1994, continuing to work with the Wellstone Alliance (as in Paul Wellstone, may he rest in peace) Discovered that Princess Boredom was asthmatic, and pulled her out of preschool shortly thereafter. Nonny took over day care.
--Started researching graduate schools and studying for the GRE The rest of that year was a sleep-deprived blur, in which I became hopelessly addicted to caffeine and fell in love with Boston.
5 years ago was November 2000
-- Living in KC area, where we'd moved the year before.
-- Pregnant with Princess !Kaboom. Princess Boredom in first grade, and one month away from her not-coming-home-after-school stunt.
-- Getting over pneumonia, which had kept me from attending Faire that year.
-- Working at the KC Symphony with a mildly insane and highly disorganized boss.
3 years ago was November 2003
-- Praying that Princess Sticky would be born soon.
-- Finally put a fork in my Dedicant Program and called it done.
-- Bummed that I'd missed the wedding of
breathofgold and
iron_clad due to another bout with pneumonia.
-- Still grieving dear old Logan, our golden-basset dog, and wondering when we'd lose Katy (the beagle mix, who died in late December).
-- Still living in KC area, but now in the house we'd bought that spring.
-- Shouting out, "Hey! My water!" at Thanksgiving dinner, which gave heart attacks to everyone present because they thought I'd gone into labor. In reality, some clever cleaning-up person had just moved my glass of water and I wanted it back.
1 year ago was November 2004
-- Fantasizing about starting my own business, and figuring that
kittenpants and I would give it a try at the Winter Bazaar.
-- I'm certain there were other things, but hey. I've slept since then.
6 months ago was May 2005
-- Crap. I really can't remember. Short-term memory sucks. I think May was pretty bruising, though.
-- Getting ready to turn 36, and realizing my ingenue days were over (though, to be honest, I never had "ingenue days" at all)
-- Bought a vibrator for a business trip and actually packed the darn thing. Did not get suitcase searched in public.
-- Nine Fires Press really seems to be rolling along. I completed the KWBC course and we had a Feasibility Plan and a bank account and everything.
Yesterday
-- Sneezed a lot. And sniffled.
-- Mom cooked dinner.
-- I got a hot bath, a shot of Nyquil, and an early bedtime.
-- Nobody went to the hospital at any time.
Today
-- Had a lovely breakfast, cooked by
agrnmn. I love surrounding myself with people who cook for me. Rumor has it we'll be eating pasta with meatballs tonight.
-- Dressed in my velvet pants, because I have to be "business dress" today. These are soft and comfy, but they can't tell me I'm not dressy enough because, hey, velvet!
-- Have my 900# voice on.
Tomorrow
-- Is Thursday already. I just can't get oriented to the week.
