Whaddya know. The sun came up anyway.

Despite all the sadness in the world, the sun rose this morning. There's a metaphor in there with the power to pull a person through hell and back if necessary. If the sun can show up, so can I. The world really needs people to show up, you know? Even if we can't manage to get a shower first.

I'll let others chronicle the Solstice Sleepover and Silly Hat Brigade trudging to the Sporting Henge this morning, because I'm certain their descriptions will be marvelous. Suffice it to say that I <3 my family very much right now -- all of them...silly hats and all...and the day ain't near over yet.

Princess Boredom is with me at work today and folks here are very glad to see her. She's already gotten a few calls for help with binding and inter-office deliveries. Seems there's a high demand for that sort of help, what with so many people being on vacation. They're all asking me, "When did she get so grown up?" Proud mama moments abound. I must remember these moments at about 2:30 p.m., when she will begin to lament her boredom and I will want to slay her.

Tonight is Wild Hare Protogrove's first public ritual. We may get as many as 20 people there, some of them new to us. A few friends will be staying home to take care of themselves and there are some sad realities many of us are dealing with; we will think loving thoughts and make offerings for strength and health. There will be teacakes, with the timely assistance of [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale; a great deal of nog, courtesy [livejournal.com profile] zylch; and crowns for the Oak King and Holly King, thanks to the crack-fueled creativity of [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants. The daunting task of packing the Purple Laundry Basket of Preparednes will fall to [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn, who will handle the responsibilty stunningly -- as soon as I remember to email him the list of things that must be packed.

I'm really looking forward to it.

And since I am home and all, I will add something to the tea cakes situation. Perhaps not actual tea cakes, but something along that line. Not rum balls, that's for damn sure.

You leave those pirates alone!

Alas, I have lied to one and all. I have no flour! I shall, however, buy something on the way. Something decent and not sleazy.

Pardon me

Damn. That is one fine icon.

Have fun tonight!

I wish I could be there - I miss celebrating with people this year.

hope everything goes well tonight with the Protogrove's first public ritual...I'm doing the quiet at home thing for solstice myself...but perhaps next time I can come see you in action : )

Note to all:

There will be teacakes. There may not be several flavors of teacakes, as today's List Of Things That Ought To Get Done also includes a chocolate orange rum cake for [livejournal.com profile] zylch and cleaning the den, which I promised [livejournal.com profile] triadruid that I would do. So we'll see how many teacakes occur.

All I asked for was "some teacakes." Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] fionnabhar is going to bring something that somebody made, even if it isn't her. We'll even put it on a doily.

Double-lucky is the fact that we won't have to do cakes & ale for 70+ people...only 15+ are expected tonight.

Thank you!

I think there will be plenty. One batch of these yields about 45-50 cookies. So there will be vanilla cookies for somewhat more than 15, and maybe [livejournal.com profile] zylch will share her cake. Or not. :)
