Whaddya know. The sun came up anyway.
Dec. 21st, 2004 09:37 amDespite all the sadness in the world, the sun rose this morning. There's a metaphor in there with the power to pull a person through hell and back if necessary. If the sun can show up, so can I. The world really needs people to show up, you know? Even if we can't manage to get a shower first.
I'll let others chronicle the Solstice Sleepover and Silly Hat Brigade trudging to the Sporting Henge this morning, because I'm certain their descriptions will be marvelous. Suffice it to say that I <3 my family very much right now -- all of them...silly hats and all...and the day ain't near over yet.
Princess Boredom is with me at work today and folks here are very glad to see her. She's already gotten a few calls for help with binding and inter-office deliveries. Seems there's a high demand for that sort of help, what with so many people being on vacation. They're all asking me, "When did she get so grown up?" Proud mama moments abound. I must remember these moments at about 2:30 p.m., when she will begin to lament her boredom and I will want to slay her.
Tonight is Wild Hare Protogrove's first public ritual. We may get as many as 20 people there, some of them new to us. A few friends will be staying home to take care of themselves and there are some sad realities many of us are dealing with; we will think loving thoughts and make offerings for strength and health. There will be teacakes, with the timely assistance of
featherynscale; a great deal of nog, courtesy
zylch; and crowns for the Oak King and Holly King, thanks to the crack-fueled creativity of
kittenpants. The daunting task of packing the Purple Laundry Basket of Preparednes will fall to
agrnmn, who will handle the responsibilty stunningly -- as soon as I remember to email him the list of things that must be packed.
I'm really looking forward to it.
