Twenty-Five Days of Porpoises

I've passed the two-week mark and feel pretty good. Since the last update, I've managed to find a chiropractor who cracked all the right bones and got me going on a multi-vitamin formulated to do more than "simply prevent scurvy." We'll see how that goes.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zylch, who kept the children alive while [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn and I went to check out the local YMCA. It looks nifty, and perhaps my freelancing will bring in enough that we won't have to cut any expenses to join up as a family. That would be a pretty spiffy anniversary/Christmas gift for each other.

drinking 8-10 cups of water: check
remembering to eat breakfast: check
remembering to bring lunch instead of purchase fast food: check
planning dinners and grocery purchases better: check
doing gentle yoga every morning: check

It's exciting to feel the difference that these new habits are making, but I'm going to resist the temptation to add more right now.

Naturally, I write this as I eat a handful of Hershey's miniatures...after having forgotten to plan/provide my own lunch. But hey -- the Red Sox won the World Series! And now, I have to go pee.

YMCA... we're looking to join too... are they expensive? Do they have God in the contract?

Er... there was a World Series? I thought that was sometime around inaugeration day.

It depends on your definition of expensive, and I'm sure rates vary a bit depending on the facility. The one nearest us charges $76/month for a family membership -- which includes many of the classes free of charge, as well as child care free of charge. Right now, there is no joining fee and no particular contract when you go the EFT route.

As for the World Series -- America won again! How do we keep doing that?

I understand that the YMCA rate is based on income, the "rich" subsidize the poor. I thought the rate down by the Entropic Trinity was $63/mo, but then it is in Missouri. I understand that when you have a membership, you are eligable to use other YMCAs, so I was wondering what the catch was... otherwise people might all go register as the cheapest YMCA and use the most expensive. Granted, I got my info from the YMCA KC main site... I haven't done my tour of Red Bridge yet.

When I was at the YMCA in Iowa, I didn't see anything objectionable in the contracts. The fitness portion of the business is a bit more 'secular', although they did have posters up with Christian inspirational messages on them, or tying it into the Y's mission.

Frankly, I'm okay with that. It's not like they broadcast Benny Hinn into the locker rooms or anything...*shudder*

I agree. This is what I call "good Christian" stuff. They're motivated by their faith to really fulfill a need in the wider community. It's worth supporting, IMHO.

It seems to be more community oriented with a christian history. I actually like it because there are no 'gym goons' there yelling "f-ck yah I'm amped! One more set, f-cking A yah!!" (This was a complaint from others in the [livejournal.com profile] gymrats community. ;-)

I understand. Mostly, I'm trying to keep my fluctuations away from healthy choices from being too extreme. Example: "indulging" now equals a handful of chocolate candies instead of a whole container...or a snack-size bag of popcorn instead of a full-size bag.

Hang in there, babe. Every choice is a fresh start.
