Herb Whore
Aug. 20th, 2004 03:22 pmI've been reminded this week how much I enjoy grinding up incenses and brewing potions and such. Opening up those jars and filling my senses with the ghosts of old herbs was like getting reacquainted with an old friend.
It's wonderful to have my life returning to a place where I can find a place (not in the depths of my closet) to display and work with my herbs. After all, this kind of spellworking is part of how I earned my name. However, it did come as something of a shock to learn that saffron costs something like $45/gram! Thank goodness we planted hundreds of crocuses in the yard.
Jesus, my hands are hot. It's all I can do not to ditch work this afternoon and go home to start working. It'll be divine to feel he heaviness of my mortar and pestle, to hear the sound of salt and bark and resin in the bowl and breathe in all those wondrous scents in the air...
The cauldron will be boiling tonight. Between this blissful investment of time and energy -- and the
zylch's fasting devotion -- y'all better be ready for a wild ride on Sunday!
