Work/Rest balance (or imbalance...)

Last night, I was very tired. After getting the littlest Princesses to bed, I stumbled around the house trying to get ramped up to do a bit of laundry-folding before I painted. Finally, after walking into a few walls, I decided to have a little cat-nap before starting anything.

Not being much of a cat, I screwed it up. I slept more like a lazy dawg and ended up getting close to 12 hours of blissful sleep last night. Guess I was kinda tired. It's a toss-up whether I'll do the same thing tonight or do a bit of painting first.


The dining room walls are all sealed now. The entryway walls have their two coats of base color. The hallway walls need a second coat of base color. The stairway walls need priming and painting still. After that, we glaze and seal those walls (which are all a bit purply-er than I'd expected, but really agreeably lovely). I love painting.

Next week, we hope to be in sanding hell, as we rough up all the trim pieces in the dining room/entryway/hallways/stairway to prepare them for painting. I hate sanding.

Once the wall painting is done, we'll pull up the stairway carpet (so as to reach all the trim and get rid of stinky carpet). I also aim to begin pulling up carpet in the bedroom, which is a bit complicated.

See, under the nasty brown carpet in our bedroom is an even nastier striped carpet -- red, orange, green brown, blue and other colors for which I don't have the words -- which is backed with a sticky foamishness that rivals the Black Abomination we used to have in the hallway. I'm thinking we can get the brown part up pretty easily, then allow the horrors of the bottom carpet to motivate us to get that stuff up a bit at a time over the next few weeks.

It's truly horrifying.

Our proposed decorating scheme for the bedroom may best be described as "barbarian horde."

Care to elaborate? I'm picturing a lot of fur, animal parts, and mismatched booty from raiding parties, like rugs and goblets and jewelry.

Think saturated colors and sort of like the inside of a war chieftan's tent. Dark woods, luscious rugs and pillows, burnished bronzes. A den of barbarian delights, but not specifically of any particular culture. We've already taken the bed off the frame and will likely see what happens if we paint right over the woven grass wallpaper...
