I'm in love with these indoor/outdoor rugs from Ballard Designs (hell, I'm in love with most of what Ballard Designs sells). HOWEVER (comma) these are particularly practical, I tell you.

They're black and sand, which I love for the dining room, which needs a rug because ECHO ECHO ECHO and SCRAPE SCRAPE SCRAPE. And they can be washed with mild soap and then hosed down to clean. They're also large enough for the space and the enormous effing table. And pretty darn affordable at less than $200.

They have their place on what I call my "$200 List," a collection of things to acquire or fixes to install that are not life-or-death, but require approximately $200. You know, when we can spare it. Hah.

We do have a small in-front-of-the-sink rug of the same material, and it really is pretty comfy on the feet.

Luv the Heirloom Bordered. Wonder how these will stand up, under a dining table...? BTW, I got a similar one from Overstock.com for our front hall and, yep, love!

I was searching for outdoor rugs because they're less delicate than the average area rug, and much more washable. (The notion of hosing that sucker down on the back porch is very attractive.)

Over the next 5-10 years, I figure the rug is going to take significant damage -- damage the floor will not have to take in its place -- so I need to find something I'm going to like the look and feel of, but not grieve when its time is done.
