With apologies to [livejournal.com profile] chaosdruid.

I'm pleased to announce that I managed to meet most of my priorities over the weekend, and was particularly successful with the ones that required the wrangling of money and other people's time.

The one glaring omission was that I did precisely nothing to save my Secretary Archives to disk for [profile] chaosdruid. Sorry 'bout that. I will endeavor to do that soon for you, particularly since the computer will be leaving the house for a spa vacation shortly.

After a frenzied couple of days & with tremendous help from [livejournal.com profile] zylch, [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants, [livejournal.com profile] druidevo, [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn, [livejournal.com profile] triaddruid and [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale, we've made the following progress:

1. scrubbing of dining room walls, wherein I learned that I really ought to wear rubber gloves when I will be dipping my hands in a lot of vinegar water over several hours

2. patching and sanding the plaster walls, during which we determined that "room temperature peanut butter" is a good consistency to aim for when mixing plaster from powder...also, that it washes off a hardwood floor just fine

3. consulting about colors with [livejournal.com profile] kittenpants, who totally grokked what we were after and overcame our initial unease about the possibility of something minty or possibly purple on our walls, and who taught us that it's smart to trust the expert you "hire"

4. purchase of much paint and marvelous supplies with the assistance of two princesses, where we all discovered that there are way too many kinds of cloth rags to choose from, and that they are never all in the same place for reasonable comparison

5. finally covering the floor, masking and priming of dining room walls, removal of the ceiling fan, painting of the ceiling, replacement of the ceiling fan and first coat of the base color on the walls

This was all accomplished with minimal paint on children, an agreeable amount of paint on adults and (I think) no paint on dogs. Note: [livejournal.com profile] zylch looks very fetching in Cultured Pearl. I'd also like to bow to the superior cookie-cooking powers of [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale, who prepared chocolate-and-butterscotch chip cookies to keep our strength up. I'm humbled by what you lot can accomplish in my kitchen.

Contrary to the evidence of the above typing (which took me more than 20 minutes of my lunch break to compose), I can hardly move my hands or arms today.

One more coat of the base color to do, then the darker finishing color on top of that and the walls will be mostly done. Painting the cabinets and trim can be done piecemeal over the next week or so, once the walls are done. Then, we start pricing and budgeting for the plate rail and 2x "rails" for the walls.

After that, I move on to prepping the walls in the hallway, entryway and stairs.

::le sigh::

Oh, sweetie. I seldom remember to take pictures of my children, nevermind actually get them developed (we don't own a digital camera). Plus, I avoid the whole picture-taking experience whenever possible. I'm certain there was some deeply scarring experience somewhere in my past...

If you and/or [livejournal.com profile] diermuid care to set up a time to come by with my sewing machine, however, we could probably arrange for the Grand Tour.
