It's only Tuesday, but already this week is approximately 357% less heartbreaking than last week, so I'm going to call that a win. :)

Lovely weather is starting to happen more often, which has me jonesing for some yard work. If anybody ever wonders what to get me for Mother's Day or my birthday, then you've gotta know the answer is DIRT. Or maybe mulch. Plus the time to work it. (I managed to get my first mild sunburn of the year this Sunday, starting to de-poop and d-ethatch the lawn. Awful yet satisfying work, that.)

In related news: on the advice of [livejournal.com profile] diermuid, I purchased a pooper-scooper. I've never owned one of those before, as a TOOL. I, myself, have been the pooper-scooper. Maybe it means I'm getting older, but not having to bend over for a bazillion loads of dog poop was a great relief. Maybe I'm just getting smarter?

What kind of pooper-scooper do you have, and do you just throw the poo in the trash when you're done?

I don't think it's got a brand name. Er. It's the kind where you've got sort of a squeezy handle that opens the grabby part at the bottom...kind of like one of those bulldozers that has toothy jaws. (Not so great on "fresh" poop, if you'll forgive the imagery.)

I'm talking here about backyard de-poopification, which happens periodically but not one-the-spot. We've got baggies we carry with us to scoop up messes if we're walking the dog outside the yard.

Right now, we bag the backyard poop and then put it in the trash. I'd like to investigate one of those in-ground poop-composting bucket things that you dig a hole for, but haven't just yet.

Thanks! By "investigate," I meant "price and decide whether to purchase" one of the composting things. I've seen them in a number of catalogs. Have you any experience with one of those? I just don't know if they're quite so awesome as the advertising says.

I haven't any actual experience; I wanted to but the ex wouldn't go for it. I'll be interested to hear about your explorations on the matter. Erm, no pun intended.

Hrm. You might contact D & K about dirt. I don't know if they've disposed of it, but there was a tarp covered pile of the "good stuff" (left over from the leftovers of A & L's "OMG we ordered so much dirt!!!" adventure, not the clay-ey stuff from the Digging of the Drain) outside the garage. They may have gotten rid of it already, but if not I suspect they might be happy to Donate to a Good Cause.
