saffronhare: (Biking)

I've really enjoyed getting more time on my bicycle this summer...or, as Rowan likes to call it, my "Escalade." (It's a pretty cushy "comfort" bike.) Mostly, I've been riding my bike as transportation, with some exertion thrown in for exercise benefit. Exercise is happening as well, but it's not 100% bike-centric.

It's nice to live in an area where most things are accessible by bike, and where there are a goodly number of bike trails, uncrowded streets, or sidewalks to ease my peril-sensitve nerves!

How great. And how I wish I lived in a place like that.

It's new for me, and there's a lot of acclimatization happening along other fronts. But I like it here. :)

ETA: It's not so much a bike-friendly town...it's simply a smaller town, and therefore not quite big enough to be unfriendly for biking.

I remember living in a bike-friendly land where I could walk to a natural foods store and carry both the Birdy and the groceries home without sweating. Where the buses could get me to work, school, almost anywhere I needed to go or I could take my bike with me and use the bus to get me most of the way there. I remember this wonderful place... all places should be like Eugene, OR... it would be like living in a dream!
