This weekend's bronchitis has morphed into pneumonia now, so I've got newer, stronger drugs and orders to not to much of anything. That's not a limitation I cope with easily...even with the benefit of cough syrup containing codeine. So. Distractions.

How about some garden planning? I don't think I'll have the time for a lot of gardening this summer, since we'll be working mostly on the inside of the house in Gardner, but Kira Deara has specifically requested a "butterfly garden" and I think it might be do-able.

There's a raised bed already framed in and mulched on the west side of the house, with nothing much in it at the moment. I think the soil tends to be quite damp over there, so perhaps a combination of rain garden and butterfly garden attributes might be nice.

As a bonus, there are already two oak tree saplings on the property -- one is pin oak and one is red oak. Whee!

Thinky, thinky.

Do you have eggplant this year?

I don't have the seeds yet, but I will be growing a little for [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale. I'll have plenty of seeds left over, for sure. Will you be wanting some to grow, or are you hoping to trade produce?

Hmm... either way would probably work. I'll be growing kale, spinach, lettuce, peppers, and tomatoes this year. (Possibly peas and green onions.) If none of that interests you, then the seed route will work. Of course, tomatoes and peppers will be growing contemporary with the eggplant, and possibly not the others...

Hm. Chard, kale, lettuces (a few kinds), spinach, cukes, summer squash, snap peas, onion, peppers, tomatoes over here. Are you growing hot peppers or sweet? (Mine are skewed towards hot, so might trade eggplant for sweets.)

Oh, hi, Saff! We do appear to have hijacked your comments... sorry about that. Anything you want?

LOL, yeah, Saff, what she said. I was actually thinking I'd keep posting here and maybe somebody else would jump in and say, "Oh! I have x, wanna trade for y?"

Sweet is what I'll be growing, actually, so that'll work. Eggplant for sweet peppers. We'll talk more in the summer. :-)

I'm not going to do a lot of plantings this year at all, and probably not any veggies. Might experiment with some berries in shrub form on the East side of the house, but won't be dedicating a ton of energy outside this summer.

Thank you!
