I was feeling discouraged today about general household progress, and decided to give myself a pep talk.

1. Finished steaming wallpaper in the back hallway. Nearly halfway to having the stairway steamed too. That leaves washing and sanding the walls a bit before we start the "cavernization" process. I sure want to finish steaming very soon, so I can put the steamer away for the summer.

2. Pulled up the linoleum in the back hallway. Now that I've established a system for dissolving the "black abomination," it should come up with a few good evenings of work.

3. General housecleaning is coming along well. I've been too tuckered out to do much, but routines are keeping our heads above the clutter and it's a much different place than it was a few months ago. We even planned a week of menus and did grocery shopping ahead of time this week!

4. Health improvement projects are also showing some results. Now, if I can just keep myself from eating a half-pint of Ben & Jerry's every evening, then we might really get somewhere. I'm itching to get physically active again, but just don't have much time to spare for it. So I have to settle for better nutrition and regulating my stress.

5. We're once again committing ourselves to financial sanity (there's an interesting play on words). A difference here is that we're taking smaller steps, which may set us up for better results. I hope it's a change for the good.

6. My spiritual life is kicking back into gear. Recent events have reminded me how much I get out of worship. But that's another ramble entirely.

All this, on top of 60 hour workweeks. And trying to be a wife, mom and friend. Not bad. Getting there.

The general theme here is that progress is being made, but not as decisively as I normally prefer. And most of it is likely to never be quite finished -- an "infinite game" rather than a finite one, I'm guessing.

Your new user pic is great! Where did you get it?

I know I'd love to fight. Unfortunately, my velcro shoulder can't handle much more than fencing. Even fighting left-handed -- which I can do -- the possibility of injury by impact is too worrisome. (I can't even properly draw a bow, really.)
