Thing the first: Her braces come off on November 12th in a double-appointment orthodontia-palooza! It's been more than two years. She says she wants to eat a caramel apple immediately.

Thing the second, and the one that's got me going all SQUEE: Her Chamber Choir (Chanticleers) is going to DC in May. But this is no ordinary trip...they'll be performing at the Kennedy Center. For Memorial Day.

It's one of those things I wish I knew how to make all big and bright and sparkly, you know? Their choir director sent in an audition recording; the Kennedy Center liked it; and now they're ON. I'm sort of spun around by what a big effin' deal it is...as you can imagine, and as I've already mentioned to grandparents, this trip will not be cheap. The first payment installments (thank goodness they're spreading it out a bit) will be coming due in a few weeks. You can all expect to be hearing about fundraisers. Direct contributions to the OMG DC Fund will always be welcome. :)

Whee!

I remember how expensive that one school trip for the OCP was, but what she got from it was SO worth it. Let us know how we can help, and we'll do our best.

Congratulations!

Speaking as someone who has Been There Done That on the braces, though...er, she ain't gonna be eating no caramel apple the day she gets her braces off. Or maybe even the day after. Her teeth are going to feel loose and rubbery and just plain weird for at least 48 hours.

If the braces are coming off on the 12th, tell her to shoot for a Saturday Eating Excursion. She's going to be mighty sad if she sits in that chair getting those things yanked off, dreaming of crunchy/chewy, only to find there's no way she can chew afterward.

That's very kind of you...thank you!

She's delighted about the trip, but I really don't think her mind has grasped yet what a big effin' deal it is to perform at the Kennedy Center at all, let alone on Memorial Day Weekend!

Freakin' awesome on so many levels.

I remember getting my braces off. It was the best thing in the world.

Kennedy Center on top of that? Wicked.

Question: You have a paypal account? If so, money straight in there from me to her. Oh yeah.

Yes, I do have a PayPal account. :) I'll communicate it directly to you, if you like, or to anybody who wants it...but I don't particularly want to post it on LJ because it references an email address I'd rather not electrify. And I'd also like to have some way of accounting for the gifts first.

Thank you!

I think I'm going to need a tutorial about how one does this PayPal request for money thing, or whatever. The only way I can see is to send you an email, like an invoice, which seems tacky as all get-out. Halp?

My PayPal account is my [FirstName] [LastName].

Here'sahwhatchuwannado...

Click: Profile (last to the right on the white bar under the blue tabs)
Click: More options
Under the heading of "Selling Preferences" Click: "Create New Button"
Change first drop down menu to "Donations" From there I think you can swing it. ;-)

The part where you are concerned about leaking your email addy is covered last option. Make sure that "Secure Merchant account ID" is chosen.

Final step: share your button shamelessly everywhere html can be used.

I missed out on a trip to perform with my high school marching band for the London New Year's parade b/c we didn't have the money...I think participating in something like this is nearly a "once in a lifetime" deal, so I'm glad I could help (even if it's just a little).

I'm so glad you understand. She'd been telling one set of grandparents about it not long ago, and they were sort of unimpressed...figuring it was "just some choir trip."

This past weekend, I made a point of calling them and explaining what it was all about. Changed their tune entirely (if you'll forgive the pun!). ::whew::
