This particular Malinda is a character of mine, briefly unveiled but never forgotten. She's an aging beauty queen mermaid, very likely from the Gulf Coast. Sort of a Julia Sugarbaker.
We'd been asked to improvise a character, using 3-5 physical/vocal elements to portray a personality in a very short period of time. I positioned myself as if I were on a "fainting couch," softly lifting my "fins" every once in a while; twirled an imaginary parisol; and rolled out the accent. She was having some trouble relinquishing her crown to a younger, firmer mermaid.
My peanut gallery is also disconcerting, frequently vulgar, usually hilarious, always inappropriate; and more than anything, makes me appreciate those friends that are close enough to me that I can tell what 'the voice in my head' says at any given time.
