This evening, I finished removing the Black Abomination from the hallway that connects the bedroom with the bathroom and dining room. The method I've developed requires a great deal of boiling water, cloth diapers, a putty knife and lots of patience -- but I seem to have gotten into a groove, so the next bits should go well.

1. Move things out of the crap craft hallway.
2. Finish scraping off the outer layers of paint and wallpaper in that hallway.
3. Engage help (perhaps [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn or [livejournal.com profile] zylch) to rip up the remaining linoleum in that hallway.
4. Have a festival of steaming on the stairway and in the back hallways.
5. Return to Black Abomination removal.

It's so nice to [stand] here and look at all the lovely hardwood floors we're unveiling. Refinishing them is a task that I think I will be very pleased to pay somebody else to do. But still, it's nice to see them.

Note to those with tender footsies: You may want to be sure to keep your feet covered for walking around here...there are bound to be a few splinters.

Now, I'm off to take some drugs and spend quality time with the heating pad. Oh, and we discovered what's underneath the vinyl flooring in the downstairs bathroom -- more blue tile!

You're always welcome at the homestead and there will be stuff to do for months on end, I'm sure. I'll be with the eldest two at gymnastics until about 8 p.m. this evening, but [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn will be home.

As for the splinters, the worry is that there aren't really any immediately apparent danger zones; I'm just certain there will be some lying in wait for [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale in particular.

To mix posts, I'm glad I was able to reach you yesterday on your cell phone. Didn't realize that I was turning the laws of probability on their head...

I know, I know, but it's still polite to ask. For one thing, it gives you a chance to say things like "Umm, Aunt Agnes the Incredibly Christian is coming over tonight, so maybe having someone saying things like 'Sweet buttery Jesus!' and 'God F*ck you!' in the hall isn't the best idea..." or even "For gods' sakes, no, I'm taking a break tonight!" before I drive the 45 minutes over there.

Anyway, it looks like the roads aren't as bad as I feared they might be, so it's entirely possible I'll be over this evening.

Sweetie, even if I were taking a break tonight, I've have no trouble at all allowing you to work on my behalf. Just give [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn a call if he should expect you before 8 p.m. I'm sure there will be dinner/munchies someplace, too...
