Yesterday, I volunteered at the Gorilla Theatre Beer Booth at KCRF. Not an easy day, but not a painfully difficult one, either. And OMG LOTS of FUN. Booth #320 has a great spot, too. Nice flow of people going by, so I got to people-watch (a joy I share with [livejournal.com profile] zylch, who was people-watching like a champ). Nice view of the Dunwoodie Dell stage, so I got to enjoy more of Queen's Gambit than ever before -- it was lovely to greet [livejournal.com profile] rowangolightly and meet [livejournal.com profile] thebruce. The parade even passes that way!

I'm pretty sure I said, "huzzah!" about 8,000% times more yesterday than in my entire life so far.

I learned a lot about liquor laws (not to be confused with "licker laws"), connected with friends I don't get to see often, and made new friends. Happy joy at flitting over to visit [livejournal.com profile] everflame, [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong, and the other painted butterflies, though I missed seeing [livejournal.com profile] chernobylred. Hugs from [livejournal.com profile] gamera_spinning and [livejournal.com profile] akaashben were splendid. Enjoyed some mild innkeeper-level flirtations with patrons and even managed to pull out a bit of schtick for some little girls who were all burbly with excitement about having met the King, but I'll take to heart the advice from [livejournal.com profile] fionnabhar and [livejournal.com profile] nodeal57 not to leave my day job.

"Do you know the king?" they asked me.

"Oh, you met the king?!? I've only just come to Canterbury from across the waters! Is he very tall? I have wondered. Will you show me how you curtseyed, so I can get it right?"

They assured me I would do just fine. Very sweet little princesses, they were.

Did some shopping, and got to ogle up close the stitchwork on a nice man's Landsknecht garb. Ate my very first serving of Scotch Eggs -- wif cheez -- thanks to [livejournal.com profile] diermuid (astonishingly yummy at the end of the day). Pleasant weather and even more pleasant company overall. Didn't get lost going to or returning from the privies, which is really saying something. I am totally looking forward to doing it again in a couple of weeks, though I might bring the girls out next Sunday to enjoy things as civilians for a little while. We'll see.

Sensory memories...

  • Dappled sunshine and beautiful garb on bright and friendly people.

  • Perfumery, good beer, and the unmistakeable scent of horses.

  • Crumpling fresh $1 bills in my fists, so they'd be easier to separate in the till. (They have a scent, too.)

  • Trickles of music from all directions, cheering of crowds in the distance, and the clanking of armor.

  • OMG cheesecake on a stick. And Smithwick's Ale, which isn't Guinness but is still quite good. (Yeah, we had Guinness, but I needed not to drink it throughout the day, dontcha know.)

*smile* Welcome to the Faire experience! Sorry I missed you. I was out on Saturday and watched for you at the booth 'cause I remembered you'd be out this weekend. Gorilla does have a good spot.

Well played w/ the little princesses!

Do you have comp tickets covered?

The idea of this visiting this weekend has only just now come to me, so no. No comp tickets secured yet. Can you help? That'd be awesome!

I figured I wouldn't see you on Sunday, since you had Roger other things to do. :)
