This is why we say "no capes."
Jun. 23rd, 2008 02:00 pmHighlights from the weekend:
I generally can't pronounce Welsh to save my life, but the concept of Awen is pretty dear to me. When I'm in the role of priest (particularly when I'm channeling), there's a very definite feeling of the god's having their tongue on my head. Okay, that sounds gross, but it's the way the experience lands in my brain. So there. And inspiration! Totally a bright and warm blossoming of fire. Wild Hare Solstice filled me up with that warmth -- new friends and old, with the Kindred all around us. Blissed out. And good omens, too! Sorry. Still stumbling over the words to describe it.
The girls left on Sunday morning for Poppy Camp, but a bit later than we'd originally thought. That's because a bird went through one of the engines on the inbound flight -- a sturdy bird that had done some damage. So they had to de-plane and get on another one (which was, thankfully enough, only a 30-minute delay). Princess Boredom came off the flight, thrilled to have learned the term "birdstrike," and wondering if the bird had been wearing a cape. Princess !Kaboom felt bad about the bird, and thought it was maybe more inconvenienced by the incident than the people. "I think it maybe died, Mommy," she said. Princess Pixie said, "Stupid bird." They arrived at their destination without further incident and are currently being indulged to within an inch of their lives.
When I got home from the airport, I failed to nap very well at all, so I got up and decided to hang things on the walls. I used tools! I measured and leveled and drilled and anchored and hung. It was awesome. There are a few pieces that I think I'll have framed or re-framed before I put them up, but things are mostly hung now (except curtains, which will have to wait). I was very pleased with myself, and was able to return the borrowed drill that evening. Go, Team Me.
Technically, it's not the weekend anymore, but my department just had our June Berfday Lunch out. We went to Strouds, where you can get chicken-fried ANYTHING. I wonder if there's any such thing as chicken-friend bacon. Because that would be seriously awesome. Especially with gravy.

Date: 2008-06-23 07:22 pm (UTC)Somebody said something about the green beans having bacon in them. YUM. The bill was pretty reasonable, too -- about $10/person -- and I've got leftovers to get me through at least one more meal.

Date: 2008-06-23 08:14 pm (UTC)If you pull up maps.google.com and search for "Stroud's", it actually pulls up all three locations. This might depend on you having used Google.maps.com before and telling it your zip code, but that is one handy little mapping tool. 8-)
